Description: Slightly smaller in height and footprint that the Vango Swift 300 we reviewed recently, but this similar Outwell model competes favourably on looks and quality. The design is tunnel-style and is simplicity to erect. (watch the videos on Outwell’s site if you get stuck). We like the choice of colour schemes, which the Vango competitor doesn’t offer. There’s the classic Outwell blue plus three other shades, so you should find something to suit your tastes.

Many people, especially families, are coming around to the idea that a well constructed pop-up tent makes sense for short family breaks. With a couple of spacious pop up tents a group with young children can enjoy a camping trip without the stress of erecting a complicated large tent, while trying to occupying the young ones. Also these compact tents are easy to transport and store, plus they are very capable of standing up to any kind of weather the UK can throw at them. We expect larger pop up tents to be coming onto the market shortly, just as soon as the manufacturers work out how to keep the re-storage process a straightforward exercise.

There are plenty of pop up tents on the market now, many sold by high street chains and supermarkets, but choose carefully. Many are not suitable for proper camping trips. Some are billed as “festival tents”, others as children’s tents, but if you intend camping out overnight and there’s even a slight chance of rain, then go for a well known brand like Vango or this tent from Outwell. Even the top makes do not cost a fortune and it will be money well spent.
